im going to buy my mom a brand new phone so i dont have to spend hundreds, potentially thousands of dollars when this fix i paid hundreds for fails. what phone do you use? do you recommend it? she's on a first gen pixel and old as time itself so i was considering a brand new pixel but i wont given the security issues of late, next up is older gen samsung (s20/s21). oneui is close to pixel's ux thoughts?

i have a Samsung SM-G892A, and i love it. but don't think they make them any more. i have dropped it from the top of a stairway (~3.5m) onto a tile floor, it did not shatter the display and all it has are some scratches.

@graf @professionalbigot69 I had a redmi note 10 xoami or something. Bought it years ago. It was Iike $300 for an oled screen and 8gb of ram. Was a beast. Battery eventually popped so I replaced the battery and use it as my music / e reader. Oh it has an ir blaster tooI like the Samsung notes because I'm a sucker for styluses.

@graf @professionalbigot69 I plan to use my note s20 ultra till I die. It's a great phone. After I quit heroin I wanted to feel like a human and decided to treat myself to spending my hard earned money on something other than drugs so I spent like 1200 on it. Good financial decision? No. But I use it daily and it has that sentimental value to me.

@Dwight88 @professionalbigot69 good on you for quitting. i put an ex through rehab several times and it resulted in her reaching for fentanyl instead which gimped her so hard once either by shitty cooking or shitty dope having several strokes followed by a heart attack that required open heart surgery. last i talked to her she was on her way to rehab for the 10th time

@graf iPhone SE. Yeah laugh at me all you want, but there's no pre-installed crap like Samsung's, and actual software support for 4-6 years. That's only been a recent thing on the Pixels. As long as she isn't neligent in using it, the build quality is fairly good. The biggest plus was there isn't any learning to do that only applies to their specific phones, it's all just iOS.And the single home button is a good piece of UX design for old people.

@graf Mom's using my old OG SE. It works. She uses Insta & FB, obviously it'll be faster on newer phones, but it works. Only a couple of times in the past few months she's asked me why its slow and I just restarted it, worked fine.The biggest issue has been the small screen is hard for her to read, she finds my newer one to be better.
