@stux i disagree on this opinion... Point is that we currently not know how it happend. And i might be wrong, but if someone has not taken sufficient precautions (and yes, one can do a lot of things that could have pevent this) and acts wrongly, then it doesnt matter how many layers of Google-Anti-wathever-systems one need to work through, in the end the account will fall. All precautions mentioned in this article are not good ways to solve issues which was created by mistakes on the side of the User... It would be more purposeful this time instead of making entertainment to learn the instructive way and to propagate reasonable measures on the Users side

@stux "While today’s breaches could be from a combination of passwords and two-factor authentication being compromised, it feels like YouTube could do more to prevent the damaging effects of this."It wouldn't be the first time someone's not using proper password and 2FA. I'm not defending Google, but pointing out the obvious - we don't know what happened. And the headline is bombastic.

What the hell are they supposed to do, it's as simple as "don't run shady exe files", "use 2FA" and "use a random password"Security really isn't hard to get right

@cpluspatch it's hard to get right at scale, and when you don't have anyone dedicated to beating users over the head when they screw up

@7666 in this case it's absolutely not YouTube's fault people are getting "hacked", we just have terrible computer literacy

@cpluspatch i'm aware, i'm saying that at linus's scale even he needs to have some level of security standards around critical infrastructure and someone to enforce compliance

@stux One of my favorite channels actually joined Mastodon a few weeks ago. I sent him a DM about the hacks and told him to use 2FA as not to join Linus. He got back to me around lunchtime and said he already was but thanks for the warning

@stux youd think a channel like linus tech tips would be better at preventing their account to get hacked. But also afaik linus does dabble in crypto in general (idk more than that tho) so like im not surprised? To me it def looks like if you get involved in that world you will get hacked sooner or later.

@stux "...is there more the tech giant could do to protect creators?"Yes, prohibit crypto on any of their platforms. Crypto, in all practical applications, is not a real currency. Crypto is essentially monopoly money.
