@FinalOverdrive that's absurd. exegesis is not just a process of keeping pace with secularism, exegesis is the interpretation of a sacred text in general, it occurs regardless of whether one accepts secularization or whether secularization is occurring in the first place. that's a bizarre, ignorant thing to say about exegesis, like saying that literary criticism is merely a response to people who say that books don't matteri think that the term "religion" refers to and implicates a lot of power structures, from the caste system in india to catholic genocides in canada. but it also isn't really an internally consistent concept; what's referred to as religion is hugely internally variable and certainly doesn't refer to a single relation of power. "religions" are so qualitatively different from each other that making sweeping statements even about what the concept refers to is difficult, let alone define a coherent relation of power to which it refers
