       Neil Postman predicted that the danger wasn't that we'd become #1984, but #BraveNewWorld. Specifically, that we'd only engage the news as entertainment. I think we've seen that in the mainstream, but it's much worse on social media platforms and ideological and conspiracy themed alternative media. They are all playing to market demand. This won't stop till we raise our civic game. Till we focus our consumption on the good stuff and build/use systems to support and spread it.

       @wjmaggos social media platforms in the sense of commercial ones, I guess? Or wouldn't you call Mastodon or the Fediverse s social media platform?

       @supergrobiyeah, I try not to call them platforms. they are decentralized networks. changes the incentives imo.
