@lordoflag It depends on the aircraft & the airport. I was told a story in the late 1970s by a Lockheed employee about a landing of an L-1011 at SFO. They had some of the first automated landing equipment there. The fog was so thick the pilots didn't know they had landed (smoothly) until the nose of the plane started going down (after the main landing gear touched ground).In that case - long enough to know how to turn it on and program the landing.
