Honestly, listening to the stories of detransitioners has helped me to better understand the health issues that trans people go through. How they are failed by the health industry in ways that I would hope we wouldn't accept for any other condition. Shutting conversations like that down does a disservice to trans people and lets the health professionals continue to exploit them and lie to them about what is normal in surgeries. They get to continue to ruin lives rather than being held accountable for botched surgeries or only ever affirming and pressuring to take things further. You sign so much away when you agree to surgeries of so many kinds that it is unreal. Or your parents do on your behalf which is unfair. I also learned that once you start HRT, it is dangerous to just stop it. It is something that you end up taking for life, it is life-threatening to stop taking it. Not everyone is informed of this. It shouldn't be something that gets cut off.

@sim I wish more people understood this shit. Thus is why we conservatives are willing to die on the hill of trans minors.

@curiousraven Yes, minors are even less able to consent or fully understand what they are consenting to. They are more impressionable to what the adults around them are telling them, this is why it is irresponsible to gaslight them about their experience and things like puberty blockers. It is irresponsible to turn them against their parents, the people who are most likely to protect them from being vulnerable to any threats to them out there. The people that would care about them more than others.I'm aware that some parents aren't this but we shouldn't start off with the assumption that they aren't, even just because they don't agree. Children are better off with caring parents than left on their own to navigate this, and lets face it... the health professionals and teachers aren't going to be there when they need it most. There has to be a better way to handle this than alienating parents from the lives and experiences of their children.

@sim I'm not sure. We live in a very sick culture when parents, teachers, and doctors are no longer guiding lights for children. Our society can't hope to survive under conditions like this.

@curiousraven @sim you know what the only thing that would change the course of our society is? this is going to sound like a fedpost - it is men re-learning to die standing rather than living on their knees. that death is not that bad. a short life of glory is better than a long life of humiliation. this reasoning has been so thoroughly erased from our culture that I dont know what would return it
