I have gone through the 36 page summary for policy makers of the Synthesis Report of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) The tone and language is clear factual evidence based and logical, but I think governments politicians and industry leaders need a simpler clearer message.WE ARE ALL FUCKED UNLESS YOU GET YOUR FINGER OUT AND ACT NOW#Climate #ClimateCrisis #ClimateChange #environment #democracy #uk #scotland #usa #canada #australia #politics #nature #vegan #Birds #animals #science #IPCC

@v4169sgr @js not if we all act to put pressure on decision makers. There are an awful lot of very poor people who may be doomed as a result of what we have already done

@v4169sgr @js @CheRosach No, because human agency exists and predicting the course of society in response to events is impossibility squared (especially when the events are influenced by society), but we **are** in for an incredibly rough time as a result of accumulated inaction, and the ultimate outcome for thousands of years depends on what we do going forward this century, and in particular the next few decades. This is serious as all hell as is. We should neither sugarcoat it nor make it look worse, nor should we let uncontrolled emotion prevent reason: we should treat it with the coldly evaluated gravity it warrants. In my humble opinion anyone who says we are immutably doomed is cting irresponsibly by potentially further contributing to inaction by leading people to not act. I'm not going to say they are as bad as denialists---who I'm sure we can all agree are obviously vastly worse in nature and effect---but that line of thinking is a trap we should avoid falling into.

@ML2 @CheRosach @v4169sgr you are right if course. Yet it is a consistent position to both acknowledge both that we’ve passed the point of no return ánd still urge for immediate, drastic action to soften the blow.

@js @ML2 @CheRosach Sometimes it can be the knowledge that humanity is in a desperate situation, its back to the wall, that will generate the imperative need to do something.Of course, we need more than that as a motivation. But it's better than nothing.

@ML2 @CheRosach @js Agreed. At the same time it is also incumbent on us to show as much love as we can humanly muster to those of us who HAVE fallen into the pit of depression when contemplating the seeming impossibility of the challenges ahead of us.Including those who write about it.From personal experience, I know how hard a trap this is to avoid. It is that unconditional love on which the future outcomes of humanity depend.
