       @grammargirl You made me think about my second native language, German, realizing that the literal equivalent in that language is "meet a decision". Maybe I should start using that to see if it catches on!

       @grammargirl "So it may be that people who are native speakers from a language that uses 'take' and are speaking English as a second language are more likely to say they 'take a decision' since it’s the way they’re used to thinking about the phrase." This has been my experience when working with international colleagues: data points from France, Italy, Spain, and Sweden.

       @grammargirl I hadn't heard "take a decision" until my first trip to the UK. Most of the folk I met with were engineers.  Have you looked at education level effects on the term?

       @grammargirl one other thought, the people I heard say "take a decision" are now 60-80 years of age.  Perhaps a generational thing???
