Hey, podcasters! I had Zencastr fail twice in a row today for interviews. I've never had a problem with it before, but I have another interview in the morning, and I'm too wary to use it again until I figure out what happened.So...what are your favorite tools for recording an audio and video interview these days?[In case you're wondering, the first time, the guest's file wouldn't download, and the second time, it downloaded but didn't have audio. P.A.I.N.F.U.L.]#podcasting #zencastr

@grammargirl I keep a Squadcast and a Riverside account active. So when the Internet isn’t playing nice with one, I switch to the other.

@grammargirl I just used Riverside to record and it’s the one many of my clients use. Not without the occasional issue, but solid for 99% of the time.

@bjmendelson Thank you! I just tried Riverside's free transcription tool, and it was slick too. I'll give them a try.

@grammargirl I got burned a couple times about a year ago by Z so we moved permanently to riverside. So far so good.

@grammargirl we use Streamyard for our show. You can have it record instead of going to YouTube if you aren’t doing a live show. It works really well.

@grammargirl Cleanfeed.net is great if you're doing audio only. Probably Squadcast for audio and video.

@grammargirlI'm glad others were able to help you out because I was about to dive headlong into researching Zoom's video recording options. (I use it for its discrete audio files, but only as a backup because all my 'casts' co-hosts record locally.)LOL -- Abbreviating podcasts to 'casts and then making it possessive makes it look like I'm being sarcastic. Britishly.

@grammargirl I've used riverside.fm with no troubles, and a major PR firm I work with uses it exclusively. FWIW.

@grammargirl All else, I use the Zoom recording. Zoom recording lets you set up for separate tracks for the two sides of the conversation.

@grammargirlI also use Zencastr and had a problem with the last interview. My guest's track just disappeared. Thankfully, the customer service recovered the VoI file, which was fine. But yes, I'm also thinking about switching.@CrackedWindscreen

@sugidamablog @CrackedWindscreen Interesting. I'll give customer service a try and see if they have any ideas for recovering either of the interviews. I went through the troubleshooting steps on the website, but maybe there's something more they can suggest.

@grammargirlAs I understand, they keep the recordings in the cloud for some time, but not for too long.@CrackedWindscreen

Zencastr customer support was fantastic, and they were able to rescue one of my two interviews from their backup files! 🎉🎉🎉 They said the problem was likely my guest's slow internet connection. It's weird because our interview didn't have choppy audio or video, but Zencastr had a screenshot of the data on their backend showing it was slow.I'm just thrilled we don't have to do the interview a third time!#podcasting #zencastr
