@stux An egalitarian society, with collectively owned means of production, from each according to their ability and to each according to their needs, with no state to enact violence on individuals, where people are free to pursuit happiness and work for the betterment of themselves and each other - why fuck that? And what does the dictator of an authoritarian state have to do with that? The so-called dictatorship of the proletariat does not to communism lead, just another flavour of oppression.

@stux China is communist in name only. It hasn't been communist since Nixon visited. All that economic liberalization has generated immense wealth, mostly concentrated in the hands of billionaires, along with a growing middle class that has embraced consumerism just like us.

@stux I think communism would make sense only in small, distributed nations. And only when each individual member of the society is given a democratic opportunity without taking away their individual academic agency.

@stuxAs the US is a market capitalism society and we might be going on a trajectory where we bring back child factories and indentured servitude (we already have for profit prison slaves in the US and a lot of it is racialized still). I have a lot of concern when people think the major problem with China is that they are communist. I think there's a better way to slice this bagel.

@stux I think your argument is probably not with communism or other leftist theory of economics, but with authoritarianism. The pure Right vs Left debate is really about who owns means of production, private individuals or collective public entities? Those that exploit wealth and power love capitalism because both automatically go to them. But if the people own the production, then the only way to exploit wealth and power is for governments to have totalitarian, unjust control.
