Not sure what's going on here with Mastodon.top and the accounts being created, but this is the second one in just over an hour that has followed me that has a dangerous link in its bio.I have reported @poloraticw now as well.Might be time to contact the admin of that instance and let them know what's going on.#MastoAdmin #MastoAdmins #Mastodon #FediBlock

@CliffWade I had one of these follow me from a different instance a few days ago. Maybe someone's using a script and targeting one instance at a time until their IP is blocked?

@linkeddev @poloraticw Yeah I'm not sure what's happening. I can't reach the instance currently and couldn't earlier either. Then randomly I'll be able to reach it. Not sure if they are experiencing some nasty stuff there or what.

@CliffWade it's currently up for me, and is French so I'm relying on Google translate, but the sign-ups are requiring a code for verification so it's likely that since the accounts appear to be English in nature, the instance admin is unaware of bots abusing the platform. Additionally it'd be reasonable to surmise that it's being manually done given code requirements being required to finish sign-ups

@CliffWade Don't link the spam bot, it lets them know you're onto them. =PI expect these sorts of bots to hit any given server, starting with the large ones, that they can until that server makes it prohibitively difficult to operate there.

@CliffWade Make sure if you see a bunch to report a multiple of them. All of these bots have patterns of behavior, whether it be what mail services they use, IP ranges they use, whatever, and the admin will likely need to see a number of them to be able to implement a well-tuned block they can't get around.

@CliffWade I got a report for a very similar profile with a suspicious link to that same domain but the account was from mastodon[.]socialThere probably will be more of those on servers with open registration

@CliffWade @poloraticw I had 3 such accounts follow me overnight last night. I blocked them all.Another was flagged a couple of hours ago by my instance.I appreciate that I could change my settings so that only those I approve can follow me, but don't wish to at this stage.It creates an extra level of complexity for those who legitimately wish to follow me, and prolongs the process.
