       @lowqualityfacts The fascinating thing is how little variation there is. The shadow of the Rocky Mountains from end to end only weighs about 5 oz more than the shadow of a gnat. Scientists theorize that shadow weight increases at a logarithmic scale inverse to the weight of its caster to keep the shadow pinned down. Mountains and skyscrapers are heavy enough to keep their shadows down almost entirely unaided, but a bug's shadow needs more weight to stay on the ground.
