New podcasts being added to Anchor has slowed considerably since they switched it to "Spotify for Podcasters". In the 2 weeks previous to the switchover there were 13,505 podcasts created. Since then only 3,866. It's possible we aren't picking them all up, but I very much doubt it. We track their adds very well.

I'm not sure what would have happened to affect this change, so I'm holding it with a grain of salt until others can confirm. Maybe they tightened some signup parameters as part of the switch. Idk.

@dave new podcasts or new episodes? As an Anchor user, the switchover made it very hard for me to figure out how to login to my account.

@mikebrew New podcasts. Most of Anchor's new episodes each month were from new podcasts, so both will be down this month I expect, when @js does his stats run.

This could be simply a result of a drop in search ad spend combined with brand confusion from the switchover.When I do an incognito google search for "free podcast hosting" Spotify for Podcasters doesn't show up until halfway down page 2.

@Onmyom The paid podcast hosting companies seem to be doing well from what I've seen. @Todd_Blubrry mentioned things had slowed a bit and kind of "flat", but by no means a decline. Probably just a return to the pre-pandemic trend lines.https://livewire.io/podcast-hosts-by-episode-share/

@dave @mikebrew Not seeing this on my side, I do an internal version every day, and Anchor's share of new episodes actually up a bit this month.There's another mildly interesting change in the top 10 (not surprising for folks keeping track), but I'll save that for later

@dave I look at the underlying episode media files (and any redirects) since those don't lie, but also keep the feedUrl as an additional attribute on each record. Don't really track new feedUrls on this dataset. Each month is kind of a separate pile so it wouldn't make sense.Also have a separate db that has the entire feed universe that I may be able to determine a "new feed url" (ie feed url I haven't seen before some date) and join it over somehow.Or join it over to the pi dump, similar

@dave @csb heh, entirely my fault, the range I had set up for scraping were exhausted and i didn't bother to add another on sequential to it .. that was like three weeks ago .. but if you like them being added I can start a new - I focused on getting some other updates in, Librivox, Podbean, Podomatic and SoundCloud.
