@flexghost The Biden WH hosted about 30.of them at an event in December, so it's pretty clear who gets the talking points. That has created some pushback from those not invited, which isn't helping to stop declining engagement. At first, I wanted them to come over to Mastodon. Now I'm all about letting them burn down with that site.

I figure someone said something about declining engagement and everyone got nervous. But then they convince themselves it's OK. And then the Post fiasco. Professionals and Resisters got invited with the intent to establish them before opening up the platform to the masses. But no one seemed to.have a game plan beyond that. The big accounts started posting, "I'm on Post!" And human nature and FOMO kicked in. Followers freaked out that they weren't on and missing out. And then the big accounts...

@flexghost They didn't see the numbers that protected their fragility. And they couldn't necessarily impose the hierarchy that had been established on the bird site. What was needed was to work up to a 80-20 ratio, with 80% of their content on Post. Nothing on Twitter that wasn't on Post. Start out with exactly the same content, and then solely start upping the ratio to encourage and reward those who jumped to Post. Some tried, but not enough.

@hu_logic @flexghost I haven't been on Post in a couple of months. Maybe it is thriving and part of the reason Twitter engagement is down. But if that is the case, it is because the people who jumped there are creating their own groups and hierarchy. And they will eventually resist the Resisters stepping back in and expecting to take center stage.
