@CliffWade I use a self-hosted VPN! It routes through a pi-hole for tracking and adblocking wherever I go, along with privatedns

@linkeddev Self-hosted VPN is quite interesting. Definitely something I'd like to look into at some point.

@CliffWade wireguard is surprisingly easy to setup, and Racknerd has a VPS line that's sorta made for IP nodes, for dirt cheap

@CliffWade Always. I use Private Internet Access and I quite like it. It covers all my devices and also protects my partners devices too. Routinely pick random endpoints too. Very easy to use.

@CliffWade don't use any VPN, use the SPN, it's much more better https://safing.io/spn

@6G I actually use ProtonVPN as a paid VPN. I don't use their cloud service as I don't really have a need for it.

@CliffWade For day to day browsing I don’t but do have a VPN installed for travel, or when I just want an extra layer of anonymity.

@CliffWade it's not "an" SPN, it was made by them directly (the S stands for Safing, the people that created it), so it's really a kind of it's own and not something you can get anywhere else.

@CliffWade I built this https://vpn.democratize.cloud Uses your Digital Ocean account to deploy a WireGuard VPN to a VPC in your account. I use it all the time, create them, tear them down as needed. Choose the geo of the VPC too. I use it mainly when traveling abroad or I need to test something from somewhere else on the globe.

@nekothegamer @CliffWade does SPN still have issues with cutting speeds by like 80-90%?

@jcrabapple @nekothegamer Funny this is mentioned because I did some research last night on SPN and most of what I read is how horrible of a service it is due to how they are known for speed reduction and that it's one of the most recommended services to stay away from.

@CliffWade I've been using a VPN for various things. I've even built it into my environment. Cable Modem > Box with VPN+PFSENSE > WiFi Eero 6+. I've been with Surfshark for 6 years now.

@CliffWade I'm a @protonvpn user myself. I've used @protonmail for years now and I use the VPN anywhere I can. I even have it installed on my Google TV puck so when I go out of town I still can watch my shows. Not that I leave the country on any regular basis; just no one but me and google need to know what I'm watching.
