Somebody at Debian create a GUI upgrade tool to move from one release to the next when it comes out and I'll be a Debian fan for life.#Debian #Linux

@e33io This works perfectly, but it's not awesome on a desktop operating system. For a server, this would be fine. And if Debian was a server-exclusive operating system, I wouldn't bring it up. But on a desktop, stuff like this drives me to Ubuntu.

@e33io I think traditionally this has been true. But I think desktop Debian + GNOME + Flatpak sort of closes the gap with Ubuntu now. Application management was always the big sore point to me. Now it's really just the management of the OS itself when it comes to release upgrades. I can't think of anything else that holds it back.

@e33io Ah, I did hear about this. This seems cool, although I’m fairly comfortable just using standard Ubuntu and installing Flatpak myself. That only needs to be done once, so I’m fine with it. But I do genuinely like that this exists.

@zak did you check out @vanillaos ? ..they are changing from ubuntu-based to debian-based, and it has a more gui-based experience for users than pure debian

@e33io Yep, and this might end up being what I go with just based on that.

@zak @e33io (But the real thing, pure Debian is a reliable friend too.)

@hehemrin @e33io I dunno. Honestly, at the point that I start using a Linux distribution based on Debian rather than Debian itself, I question why I'm not just using Ubuntu. Debian is attractive to me because it's the extremely solid base.
