@synapsid @Wormwood Wheels being overrated isn't even a good excuse for failing to develop the wheel, for two big reasons:1) Egyptians *did* use rollers - so they would've had a use for the wheel and axle. It's simply wrong, wheels were not overrated for that civilization.2) In South America, wheels *were* overrated - they didn't perform the same types of architecture, and they didn't have domestic animals of use for agriculture (minus the llama). South Americans *did* manage to develop the wheel independently - they simply only ever used it for children's toys. "Children's toys" are an entirely valid use of the wheel, even if you're not using it for anything important.

That one is probably actually true but not having horses doesnt stop you from domesticating other animals that can fulfill similar enough roles. See: Camels. Last time I checked they had wild cattle over there too.

@deVoid @Wormwood @pleasesaybye oh yeah although the original horses weren't that impressive, so other animals like zebras and such are comparable to the initial ones prior to thousands of years of selective breeding by humans. Especially if one has the wheel where it doesn't matter as much if the animals isn't outright rid-able, as long as they can produce more power than a human they can be used to pull a cart or run a mill.Honestly the best cope I've seen for Africans in terms of plausibility is "domesticating animals would be risky because it's hanging out near the prey of larger predators".
