@Aether Coming at it from an unskilled point of view, winged spear/spetum/ranseur. Blade + crossguard on a stick seems versatile and straightforward.

@pinemarten @Aether The way I think about it, I (or the average guy) am not going to be doing any fancy maneuvers. I just want to stab, have good reach, and don't want to over-penetrate. Maybe take a swipe at someone with the crossguard at times, but not much slashing. So a winged-spear seems effective and lower weight than a halberd or pole axe.

@Aether The blunt side of the pole axe looks like it would be good for scrambling brains inside a helmet like a warhammer. And it doesn't give up much overall length to the popular halberd.
