       A conversation over lunch today elicited a variation of the following statement from me along with encouragement to say it more often:I believe that the primary motivation behind DoH (DNS over HTTPS) is ad and tracking revenue retention.

       @bapril counterpoint: Your ISP was selling that information about you before. The only difference now is that people who control the wires can’t profile you too, which is particularly important to far more people when the profilers are the state or state-controlled. People who want to block ads will be able to sort themselves out, but people who live with the default settings - that is, the great majority of people -are much safer with DoH than classic dns.

       @mhoye @bapril The grand EU vs. US DNS privacy disagreement. Americans think it's absurd to trust ISPs or the government; Europeans think it's absurd to trust American tech companies.
