Anyone else notice how "safety" seems to be the primary objective of those developing AI? It disheartens me so much it turns me off from even trying ChatGPT (which I've yet to do), even though I lament missing the boat on seemingly everything that crops up. Do you think I should sign up for ChatGPT and try it out, or nah?

@adamasnemesis first off, the AI systems are not safe at all, and secondly, the promise of safety is towards it being used as a disinformation weapon, which was broken anyway

@adamasnemesis I think the primary objective of 'AI' is profit. I don't believe safety or ethical concerns are prioritized at all.

@adamasnemesis It is not compulsory but it is an interesting piece of technology. IMO, its applications are much more limited than many people say, though. It completes any text, this is good to tell a story. Open AI playground is more interesting as it will never answer "I don't know".It is also very good to make summaries and that's where GPT shines when coupled with a search engine. Look at the new Bing if you have not already.

@adamasnemesis I have signed up and so far the few results I've gotten have been low hanging fruit. The same is true for the kind of results I'm hearing from other people. This is really a try at your own risk and your mileage will vary by wide margins kind of proposition.

@adamasnemesis I think it's worth interacting with, if only to recognize how it is designed to trick you into thinking it is writing with any awareness. Makes media literacy pretty easy, actually. If it looks like Chat output, it very well may be.

@adamasnemesis I only want to try it to try to communicate with the "inner soul" of the AI and because I want to understand if they are sentient or not. Tried with temp phone number, no success yet.

I know the poll is still open, but I've made my decision. Sorry to disappoint the majority, but I decided to do it: I signed up for ChatGPT and Bing. Bing put me on the waitlist, so I've just started talking to ChatGPT so far and it's been...interesting. Might prove useful for me, but it certainly has its limitations. More than anything, though, I'm struck by how different it is from any software I've used to date. 🤔 #AI #artificialintelligence #ChatGPT #thoughts #self
