@Arcana I will be an author eventually. But in the mean time I'd like to reduce contact with my mom as much as possible and become independent and figure out what to do about my health (If anything, maybe just exercising and eating healthy is enough.)

I don't think that anything good in life happens quickly. If something good appears to have happened all of the sudden, I always suspect that there is an obscured path, but a path nonetheless that is long and often grueling leading up to it. Even for more deus ex machina type events like dramatic acts of charity.Ultimately we are small creatures whose best hope for success is small, stubborn steps in a positive direction, in defiance of setbacks, which are often large and devastating when they finally reach us.The human mind is a powerful tool for rationalization in favor of itself, and so I think we all, unless by conscious thought or depressive tendency can be tempted to think in terms of, "if only."Nothing against you personally, of course. You may be correct, surely you know yourself better than the disembodied voice of bobby hill in your head as you read. It could just be massive cope from someone for whom, while life has gone well, it has rarely been directly attributable to my intent, but always to my actions, though I did not know their consequence.

My life has been very strange and cruel, and I think it taught me agency in the face of all the things that have happened to me; since without agency I would have already drowned. My “if only,” is dependent upon that agency, but I would have never learnt it in a different scenario. So it’s a fruitless “if only,” as they all are.You are right though that everything is done in small steps, one at a time. My life has had a positive trajectory ever since I was old enough to influence it at all. It is frustrating to start in such a deep hole and to have all my positive change amount to a single taste of fresh air, but nothing in life comes quickly. That single taste is a stepping stone in a very long journey.Humans have always been small in the scheme of the world, but nowadays we are also small in the scheme of our own lives. We are pushed and pulled around; and we seek our necessities from people far away from us, or who have no connection to us. The people who I seek to for help never give it, so I try an exercise myself in all the small ways I can. By focusing on how I treat my body and mind. This is the only thing I have had much success with.

@parker @Arcana Short stories atm but I will write novels in the future. Not a fan of poetry personally, and I've never heard of nanowrimo until now.

@hidden @Arcana My sister in law does it every year, a big event for younger writers. Not that I am one (aside from some poetry in high school), but seems like good practice at having a regular schedule and having people read your stuff, always a big hurdle. And I'd be excited to read your work.
