Sad😢, Republicans like the vulnerable to suffer: Hundreds of thousands of US nursing home residents are in an unthinkable bind: Getting by on as little as $30/mo. Congress hasn’t changed the Medicaid stipend known as the personal needs allowance since 1987.In a LT care systems, Medicaid’s personal needs allowance, as the stipend is called, is among the most ubiquitous, yet least known. Nearly 2/3 of American nursing home residents have their care paid for by Medicaid-: https://apnews.com/article/nursing-home-medicaid-personal-needs-allowance-poverty-2e0a2d90d7d63d4b476397a50a9cddff?taid=6411c753e038ba0001315de1&utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&utm_medium=AP&utm_source=Twitter

@KimPerales Many corporate owned nursing homes that totally manage resident’s money sign residents up for the most expensive medications and force them to use this money for copayments.

@KimPerales in Arizona group homes are allowed to take 90% of a client’s Social Security. When my son was in a group home he had $90 a month net to pay for all OTC meds and personal care, clothing, recreational outings, eating out with the other clients and all supplies like needed furniture, small devices, etc. I basically had to pay about $150 a month for his needs not met.

@KimPerales The system isn’t all that different from those that are incarcerated.
