As a kid I didn't like playing with other kids very much but everyone kept telling me that was not normal even my parents so at some point I really started doubting myselfPlease keep in mind that some kids just like to 'play alone' and are super happy! If you're gonna enforce it you'll only make it worseAt some point I went playing with kids from my school just to satisfy my parents but it took a whole lot of enegery and didn't make me happy in the slightest

Also when a classmate had a birthday party and I wasn't invited I didn't care at all, perhaps I was even 'happy' about it But at some point you're gonna feel bad about it if enough people keep telling you itParents know a lot but not everything :ablobwink:

@stux Thanks for sharing this. You just described my son—he's happy and intellectually engaged in solo play. I've been learning to be okay with that. :)

@adam Very welcome, I really hope it saves some kids some bad feelings❤️Solo play can be soo much fun, the social aspect can also be learned in a lot of other ways that are not so 'forced' :cat_hug_triangle:

@stux Extroverts die without social activity.Introverts die without solitude.Forcing either one to live as the other is going to be awful.

@stux Absolutely true. Dutch guy here living in Spain. My daughter prefers to play and spend time with the kids from here parallel class, same age same level. Do you think at any point I care about that? Whatever makes here happy. Parents try to push kids too much nowadays.

@10011011000010 I like that! :cat_hug_triangle: Somehow I have a feeling parents are too worried about their kids not fitting the 'normal' picture or something

@stux Standard comment line on the forms...."Doesn't play well with others" 🙄 Lots more knowledge now, and like most everything, it's not that simple. Not everyone is a 'people' person. I'm not desert island material but I can be comfortable around lots of people.

@stux Thanks for putting that out there Stux! There is no 'one size fits all' way to be happy and content in childhood.

@stux 😂 This could be a very long discussion. Just stick with your own family values and not the values or expectations from others. Normal for one could be abnormal for others. As long as my daughter is happy, I don’t care.

@stux Neurotypical people are just obsessed with what is considered "normal" instead of what feels "right".

@stux …and social expectations & assumptions don’t ever change, even for those past four score years who are now called “weird recluses.”

@stux I was happy sitting in my own little space reading a book. I didn't get the whole 'playing' thing.Or staying in and using the computer (some things never change).

@stux yeah I was definitely one of these kids, I preferred to be alone and played alone and did not want anything to do with anyone lol
