CNN was (AFAIK) the first broadcast or cable network to begin running an annoying corner ID bug 24/7 on all of their programming, a practice that is now of course universal except (mercifully) on some movie channels that may only pop them for a brief time at longish intervals, or not run them at all in the case of some premium movie channels. The now effectively universal running of a continuous news "ticker" at the bottom of cable news channels began on September 11, 2001, during coverage of the attacks that day. Previously, such tickers were typically only used for brief periods and/or during special programming, but starting with 9/11 they became essentially full-time (except usually during commercials).

@lauren what is the 'corner ID bug'? The network logo showing in the corner?

@lauren The display of a corner bug was quite common in other countries, long before CNN popularized it here in the US.
