Yes, having your defense lawyer appear on television to talk to Ari Melber about your case is stupid.I assume this is happening because Trump likes seeing his lawyers on television.

@Teri_Kanefield Trump still believes that he can pressure the various governments not to prosecute him by defending this case in the Court of Public Opinion. He fails to understand, as usual, that the people who "love" him are far fewer than they were even in 2020, *maybe* 25% of voters now.

@Teri_Kanefield it’s because Trump knows he won’t ever be held accountable in criminal court (the wealthy never are) and all that matters is the court of public opinion because that’s what fuels his grifts.

@Teri_Kanefield Trump is a bottomless well of hurt and need (which I don't say empathetically - you had a shitty father? so do lots of people, get over it). I find this so pathetic - either Trump said - get out there and let my people know and he hired a shitty lawyer who followed that blindly, or he just hired a shitty attention seeking lawyer, and this kind of thing is just bonus attention. In any case, no attention is bad attention....

@Teri_Kanefield exactly it's one thing to be a defense lawyer but to come on television talking about the case is wreckless and he is terrible at his job and that may end up helping the prosecutors in the long run

@Teri_Kanefield I’m skeptical of the media’s expressed certainty that they know the full contents of Bragg’s case. Lots of criticism regarding about his case leading to just a low level felony. Here’s an idea. How about we wait for the indictment. Then we can make some informed judgements. Maybe they are right and this is a petty case….or maybe there is more to the case than they know. Perhaps Mr Bragg has a surprise in store for us. We will soon know.

@Teri_Kanefield Incompetent lawyers or not, the flip side is that Trump has avoided any kind of accountability so far, and it’s not a slam dunk that he will in the future. So unless he faces real repercussions, the joke’s still on us.

@Teri_Kanefield It seems that, at every level, there is demand for lawyers who are best at putting on a show for their clients. Some of those are also good with a court or jury.

@Teri_Kanefield @VA7SDH holy crap that was long, but I agree with most of it, and you’re right, I shouldn’t have summarized so coarsely. What I should have said is his lawyer is on the news taking about his defense because the consequences of doing so don’t outweigh the benefits he’ll get by being able to continue his grift.Just like when BetterHelp gets fined $8M for a violation that helped them make $1B in revenue… the consequences are so small compared to the gains that nothing is likely to change. It just becomes another cost of doing business.I’m sure you can understand why the average person, who sees this happen repeatedly, would be frustrated and come to the conclusion that the wealthy get away with everything.

@mathaetaes @VA7SDH Thanks for reading.I don't think the problem is simple the average person coming to such conclusions. I think there are a lot of rage merchants on social media and mainstream playing on people's fears and emotions. The Facebook whistleblower testified that strong emotions get the most engagement.I think some of the problem comes from how people get information in a click driven media environment. Most people won't sink in and read the way you did. Thanks again.

@Teri_Kanefield Rich People do get better representation mostly because it’s a law firm and not an overworked PD. However, in this case, the client has no credibility, doesn’t follow advice, doesn’t pay, so what you get is mobster mouthpiece wannabes auditioning on talk shows. The guy was really bad.

@Catawu I wil challenge any absolute statement like this one.Not all public defenders are "overworked." Federal defenders are generally better than the private hires. If you said "sometimes" or even "often" I wouldn't challenge it, but imagine if people made general statements about your profession. If you hire someone like Cat West you won't get the best because X.

@Teri_Kanefield It's also interesting to listen to how Trump's lawyer spoke. Every word he said was accelerated to escape velocity, and he kept trying to talk over Ari Melber in an effort to make sure Ari couldn't get a word in edgewise. That's an attorney who doesn't believe in his own case and is deathly afraid of someone puncturing it if they're allowed to finish their sentence.

@Catawu The fact that you've known a few public defenders who say they were over worked does not make this statement true: "Rich people get better representation."It could also offend people who dedicate their careers to working on behalf of people who can't afford to pay.In fact, I may add that one to this page: https://terikanefield.com/frequently-asserted-rage-inducing-simplifications/Another person recently told me that rich people can "always buy their way out of trouble."
