Sony leaks: PS5 slim coming by end of 2023 followed by PS5 PRO by end of 2024. PS6 by 2027/28.Boy that's real neat but have they tried making, IDK, some fucking games for the thing rather than hardware iterations? I'm starting to get the feeling odd numbered consoles for Sony are a death kiss. Outside of the initial Playstation the libraries seem to favor evens. PS2 had a great one and by the end PS4 was rather robust whereas PS3 was a lot smaller due to difficulty to develop on. Now here we are at PS5, years in to it, and where are the games?Don't even get me started on Xbox Series S/X. I think they forgot they even launched a console.

@c I still get the feeling that the OLED was going to be their PRO model but someone looked at the logistics nightmare during the height of the pandemic and its effect on supply and said fuck that so they just put a nicer screen in it. Smart decision to be honest probably saved them the disaster Sony and MS saw with nonstop shortages. All Nintendo has to do is release a solid follow up, preferably with backwards compatibility for original Switch titles, and they'll be king of he mountain for quite some time.

I never wanted a Switch but my sister insisted on buying me Smash Bros when it came out to force me to buy the console. Ended up looking into the exclusives, just to see what else I should get that I wouldn't otherwise be able to play. They really do have Sony and MS bent over a fucking barrel on that front. I ended up with like 15 games and there might be a few more I grab before the console's life ends. Add portability on top of that and they've run away with the game. Everything that's not on a Switch, might as well just get it on PC.

The Vita too. Aside from some braindead decisions, IMO it was the first Sony console where they also began to take the mindset of "Let's release a console and hope devs will come".In the west everyone forgot it existed as a result, and also it was locked down compared to the PSP. Also the analog sticks have a serious design flaw that causes dust buildup.

I'll go deeper, the PS3's architecture was a disaster for the industry. Aside from snuffing out the era of "weird innovation" with literal schizophrenia for a system architecture, developers hated it. They hated how hard it was to program for it, they hated Sony's apathy towards banning hackers and fixing security issues on the PS3 (which was fucked since it had a "minimum firmware version" and was freely flashable instead of using efuses like the 360 had).

Also around the same time, Halo 5, CoD AW, and Titanfall all had similar "fast paced" gameplay mechanics that got watered down in sequels (BO3 and Titanfall 2 come to mind) because they absolutely filtered casuals/campers. Titanfall 1 was a much better game than 2 for one reason: while the online infrastructure sucks ass TF1 was a simpler stripped down game, with only a few weapons and mechs. Also it's faster paced too, but everyone likes how 2 had a single player. I played some of it, it was fun, but not memorable one bit.

CoD/most military shooters have gotten really bad at identifying what team is what, especially once it added in customization, it's very common to fire at your own teammates just to make sure they're not enemies. The only saving grace is most modes have friendly fire/teamkilling off. Halo and older shooters were great because it's obvious what team you're on.

older UT games had brightly colored characters and huge guns so you could quickly tell what you were up against. In class/hero based shooters this is even more important since it will determine how you approach an opponent or if the fight is even worth taking. For all it's faults, Overwatch made it so you could, in a split second, tell exactly who you were up against through it's visual design. Lawbreakers utterly failed at this and that doomed it from the start imo
