Anybody else got flooded by #Gitlab emails lately notifying about their accounts being deactivated?I mean, I expected it from the official gitlab.com (they already announced their stale accounts policy), but I see them coming also from other Gitlab instances.I'm very happy to have migrated to my self-hosted #Gitea instance, and I feel like Gitlab deserves to be abandoned.A platform that deactivates your account because you haven't logged in in a couple of months is a platform that has no clue of how software development works.Source forges are not freaking social networks, where people are expected to get addicted and check in as soon as they wake up.If I have a PR for Gnome or Funkwhale, or I've found a bug, or I want to create my own fork, I log in and I do it. Otherwise, there's no reason for me to log in. And it's perfectly legit to log in again after two years, without being harassed by account deactivation emails and without losing all the context of the previous account.

@blacklight Expect more of this… Companies want to avoid hefty GDPR fines.

@blacklight For me it's still much better than other alternatives such as Github, but unfortunately it's full speed on its enshittification process, so let's see how it evolves in a few months.

@blacklight Make sure that this "feature" is disabled on your self-managed instance: https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/user/admin_area/moderate_users.html#automatically-deactivate-dormant-usersIt should be disabled by default.

@blacklight PERSONAL OPINION (I'm a GL employee, but my opinions are my own...)This shouldn't be enabled on gitlab.com either. It makes it hard to argue for using it as a system-of-record for open-source projects. I kind-of understand the business reasons, but I don't like them. Also PSA: if you enable 2FA, please save your recovery codes, and also add an SSH public key as an emergency back-door. Support can't reset Free accounts' 2FA: it's too easy for attackers to fool us and gain access.
