@Moto_Chagatai Can't deny though... I have to give credit because the devs put themselves to the test and made a (presumably) whole game. To complete even a short visual novel is an endeavor. What can I say? Good job lol, because I'm in the same business. Not much you can do anyway, now that the product is out.Now... about basing politics on art style... Call me crazy, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. "Okay, the characters are of THAT type, but what if the game actually has substance?" Well, I went to the game's wiki (https://validate.fandom.com/wiki/Emhari_Abdi), and after only a few minutes of browsing... yeah... definitely read the dev notes/messages from the team portions because those are the cherry on top.Well, I think the absolute nicest way I can put it is: "I'm not the audience." :guraKekw:

@locagainstwall See, I wanted to refrain from speaking too soon. I knew off the top of my head that this game, ironically and appropriately called "ValiDate," is just a vanity project for the devs' worldviews and or insecurities. But... now that I've looked further, I can now say that yes, this game is trying to glorify ugliness. And not just that, but also... wrongness.At least there is some kind of awe or beauty to be had in horrifying or disgusting art. I also fully understand my position because I draw some really nasty stuff (you could even argue I bastardize the female form), but I still (try to) pursue and capture aspects of nature to interpret as beautiful. One example: Why do females get wider towards the hips and males get wider towards the shoulders? For biological reasons ordained by mother nature. The hips aid in child birth, and the physique of males make them look larger and more intimidating as the physically stronger sex. So I tend to (very hyperbolically) draw girls with wide hips. But this...? This is just... ugly. Isabelle's rotund body reflects sloth and exudes arrogance and ego. The Ehmari character is supposed to be female, but looks like a male (actually is one, too lol). There is a natural conflict here.It's one thing to create art that exemplifies negative or ugly traits if intended. Like creating a grotesquely mangled creature for horror purposes, or a lanky and sleazy character to serve the purpose of deceit and greed in a story. However, it's different when you are trying to glorify ugliness or even wrongness as beauty. These characters, I believe, are supposed to be flawed but "beautiful." To that, I cannot agree.@Moto_Chagatai

@Cayhr @Moto_Chagatai Man, you sure have a way with words, very eloquently put :shinobu_kaka: I agree with pretty much everything here but I would have just said they wanted their "representation" so bad that they made their own shit. Props to them for that I guess but there's a reason they don't get their representation anywhere else: Nobody wants to see this shit, it's fucking ugly and full of mental illness, as expected of gender freaks :shinobu_kaka:

@locagainstwall There does seem to be an audience, judging by their Twitter presence, but I am curious to see how well they perform commercially... How much of the feelings mob -the usual most staunch "supporters" of these ideas- are also buyers. I probably wouldn't say NONE, but... @Cayhr @Moto_Chagatai Definitely would be interesting to see how many of them are willing to support something that finally gives them the "representation" they want, but I wager not many. They always want their represantation in popular media but well... let's just say there are a lot of Bridget "mains" that have never played a single Guilty Gear game in their life :yoko_think: Either way this whole representation thing is fucking stupid. "They have to be 5 different forms of minorities, have at least 3 disablities and be gay for me to be able to relate to them" How about simply relating to their personality? :reimu_sigh: Then again, these people have nothing but their sexuality/mental illness to base their personality on, so I guess it's no wonder they can't relate to characters the usual way

@locagainstwall Who knows? Maybe in the game, the characters only get together due to these traits and there is some good writing. There *might be* something more, but I don't know, so I can't say (but I have my presupposition).
