Vinyl's popularity highlights how there's something appealing about the tactility of physical objects in an age where media is increasingly ephemeral. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/03/sales-of-vinyl-albums-overtake-cds-for-the-first-time-since-the-late-80s/?utm_brand=ars#botOriginal tweet : https://nittereu.moomoo.me/arstechnica/status/1635219655995559936

@arstechnica There is STILL something aurally distinct about analog vs digital music that high-end sound systems reveal. It's a smoother, delightful ear treat. On the other hand, one must learn to take care dropping the needle, cleaning the dust and handling the LPs. It's a wonderfully tactile series of moments taken back / out from a life of ephemeral digital nothingness.

@arstechnica or enough people just love nostalgia enough to keep obsolete products alive.

@arstechnica Tactile enjoyment is part of it. I also like that it forces me to slow down and take a more active role in listening, rather than just letting some playlist roll on indefinitely.
