People such as Jason Calacanis and Peter Sacks have been known to be not the smart and tech-savvy people they loved to play. The last months and especially the last days have been great at illustrating what a weird, incompetent bunch VCs often are.If the plan was to show everyone that the US and especially tech are not about merit but structures keeping mediocre men in power they were massively successful.

@tante If I had to pick the one aphorism that most changed my understanding of life it would be, "The world is run by C-students."

@tante Yeah, it's the gap between their actual incompetence and their undeserved sense of universal competence that is so disastrous.

@tante I remember when people like Jason, Kevin Rose, and Scoble were the big names on the Internet.

@tante I've been working in start ups since the early 1980's, God help me, and the thing I've learned about VC's how very rarely they are actually driven by making money. In my experience the motivating factors for VC's include:- The sadism of watching other people sweat their guts out for a non-existent reward.- Being able to lecture more talented people about how to run their businesses, despite their manifest inability to do it themselves.#svb #startups #vc ---more---

@tante @DataDrivenMD The collapse of Theranos for did a similar service: So many respected men from think tanks and high-powered law firms - the most Stanford and Harvard among us, really - completely bought in.Hoping the bankruptcy of Twitter and Tesla drives a stake through the myth of the wizard polymath savior. But will the media learn from any of this?

@tante Sorry, I’m out of the loop. What’s going on with Jason Calacanis?
