1/There has been an effort over the last 18-months or so to infiltrate the left and center-left online community of pundits, researchers and academics, and turn them against each other.This effort has originated with people historically close to Bannon, Thiel, and Putin. The tactic is to repackage such people and claim they have “recanted” past views and, appealing to liberal credulity, say it’s “time to have a conversation” and “be open minded.”Unsurprisingly, this has been successful.

3/The goal is to get one sub-group to flip and side with the “open minded” external provocateurs in the name of liberal values or something.This is high school level shit, straight out of Mean Girls, only Tina Fey would reject it for being too cloyingly stupid and dull.My suggestions are 1) pay less attention to what other people are doing and focus on your work, 2) be yourself and make a unique contribution, 3) work in private with a few people you know and trust, 4) ignore everyone else.

There is a solution, however: the Block button, and the simple act of walking away from conflict. “Fighting back” generally leads to self-immolation. Exiting provocation leads attackers to simply lose interest. It works. Stay focused. History, archives, facts, and primary sources don’t lie. People online do. Decide where you want to put your effort.
