This is your periodic reminder that 10 years ago an audiophile forum started debating which versions of memcpy had the highest sound quality. And that C++ new sounds better than malloc.https://www.audioasylum.com/messages/pcaudio/119979/

@dan oh god, lol, lmaoDid you see the audiophile SSD that made the rounds a couple years ago? They said it sounded best with the OS loaded onto it and music on a different drive entirely.

@drwho @dan You'd be using rich dipshits' money to create blue-collar manufacturing jobs. Seems like a win/win to me.

@jonossaseuraava @dan this is the worst part. Sometimes they discover things that actually do matter, but it’s really hard to tell due to the sheer amount of terminally deranged autism.

@xahteiwi @dan also at that time the best sounding CD players were cheap CD-ROMs from PCs. Simple reason: They transferred data in 8bits, and fed them to a DAC with an external clock, while audio CDs fed data serial to DAC and clock was derived from bit stream. That led to jitter, while the el-cheapo CD-ROMs had stable clock :)

@xahteiwi @dan @jcfischer > Yet another example of how extremism is indistinguishable from its parody.Yeah, seriously, I thought this was satire at first.I used to joke that your CD player had to be designed such that the laser that read the disk was perfectly in-phase with the laser that wrote the disk or it could negatively impact sound quality. Or that the low-pass filter of your DAC had to be impedance-matched with the ADC circuit that recorded the digital signal. But apparently there are people who would actually believe this.

@ramin_hal9001I can sell you a CD player that uses a pickup instead of a laser. @xahteiwi @dan @jcfischer

@danThis site is addictive, it led me to https://6moons.com/audioreviews/furutech/rd2.htmlIt's a CD demagnatizer. It removes magnetism from aluminum CDs.

@ricci @FritzAdalis @dan This reminds me of when I was taking music production in the early 90s and people claimed that vinyl was better than CDs because vinyl captured the frequencies over 100kHz which gives music its flavour and colour.

@gwozniak @ricci @FritzAdalis @dan Tell that to anyone who had a CD-4 quad setup. 45 kHz audio subcarrier with 15 kHz deviation, typically half-speed mastered in order to get to that point, you needed a special Shibata stylus to get enough response at those frequencies to recover it, and it would wear right off the groove after 10 or so plays.
