I'd like to run a Linux VM on a Linux machine, mostly to mess around with other Linux distros/environments.I'd also like to use a system like vagrant, so it's easily scriptable. What hypervisors and other support systems would Fedi suggest for this nowadays?

@urusan qemu is mostly controlled by command line switches, so i'd probably go with that on the desktop.

@bonifartius @urusan seconded. It’s FOSS, very powerful, and fairly standard for the hypervisor-as-regular-program space (as opposed to xen or KVM)

@IslandUsurper i'd recommend using qemu-kvm though i think one just needs to be in the right groups to have it work as user iirc @urusan
