It's telling how the journalists in the article think this would cause kids to drink and not being depressed and reaching for the alcohol in mom's fridge (you can't get weed if you're a NEET with no job and don't know "a dealer" unless you want to risk it online).

@Hollahollara As long as it is not made from real dogs.Everclear is actually a great mixer since it has minimal flavor.Throw together a couple fruit juices and some fizzy water, then toss in a couple ounces of this and it is off to the races.

@Hollahollara In my view, alcohol does not kill them. It just shrinks the glial cells. They bounce back except in the case of such chronic alcoholism that the liver and kidneys will fail first.

@amerika A customer was talking to me about someone he knows who is dying of cirrhosis. Apparently doctors don’t prescribe much pain remediation, bc at the hospice stage your liver cannot process opiates well. This is all anecdotal, but it does not sound like the sort of fate where the addict is worrying about cognition. Horrid.

@Hollahollara @amerika A lot of alcoholics hang on and endure treatment for awhile. Maybe they're hoping for a liver transplant, although that can take years. Maybe they're hoping liver and kidney function will return, which it sometimes does. Sometimes it takes a lot of suffering before people give up and accept end-of-life care. They may not be ready to go or they may think of it as suicide.

@Hollahollara @amerika I was just talking with an old friend who used to make and run good corn likker, knows all the finer points. He agreed that Everclear isn't fit to drink, not because it's high-proof but because it's toxic. Probably it's just the ethanol they make for car engines, which has to be dry alcohol.He said in general, good shine is about 140 proof. It's dangerous because it tastes good, a lingering corn sweetness, but it's 70% ethanol. Way too easy to get way too drunk way too fast. Been there, done that, don't remember much after.
