Star Trek Picard Season Three is so drastically underlit -- just a sea of darkness including inside all the ships -- that it makes "Eraserhead" look uber-bright by comparison.

@lauren There's a problem in the HDR version. Watch it on Prime (if you can), and you'll see that the actual show is totally fine. Paramount+ app is broken.

@lauren Oh, OK. You'd have to switch to a SDR stream within Paramount+ then ...

@atmanrising I just looked on another device without HDR, both P+ and YT versions. Just as bad. No discernible difference.

@lauren They live in a period when no one can afford light bulbs that are more than 15 watts?

@PJ_Evans As I said sometime back, in the Star Trek future, there's no money, and no light bulbs, because they don't have the money to buy light bulbs.

@laurenReally the UX team for Starfleet needs a stern talking to. One minute it's kleig lights everywhere in crazy locations all aimed into your eyes, next minute it's like its a chemical photography darkroom. Doesn't the 24th century have usability guidelines and ship UX design standards?

@lauren And yet on old low-budget shows like the original run of Doctor Who the sets were brightly lit and you could see the wobbly walls, bubble-wrapped alien grubs and strings holding up spaceships. Seems counter-intuitive to me. Is the sound okay? Making the dialog hard to hear seems to go along with dim lighting.
