Given the abundance of vague privacy policies and horror stories associated with providing companies with network security access, it's easy to understand why consumers aren't jumping to connect their appliances to the Internet.https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/01/half-of-smart-appliances-remain-disconnected-from-internet-makers-lament/?utm_brand=ars#botOriginal tweet : https://nitter.fdn.fr/arstechnica/status/1633334408831696898

@arstechnica I'd prefer my grandma's old frigidaire over a "smart" #refrigerator. It had a self-closing door (via gravity) and made a satisfying "kachunk" when it latched. #SmartAppliances

@arstechnica Hey, I'm a statistic! I'm not sad for the corpos, though.

@arstechnica Also, the utility of connecting appliances to apps is on the negative scale. Nobody needs or want it.

@arstechnica IoT is a reason to avoid stuff in my book. Your device has an app? I'm not buying it. Because sure as s**t, it'll have security holes, and there will be no security updates for it, even within a year of buying it. These things should have mandatory 10 year security updates. Most IoT ends up spying on you anyway, collecting data on your use of whatever it is. Make the data collection local, and only LAN accessible, no internet, and I might me interested.

@arstechnica or, you know… perhaps I simply don’t need my whiteware to be Internet connected and therefore won’t pay a premium to get something that is.
