I am conflicted on many academic & ethical levels re. #AcWri & #AcademicCommunication in the business that #HigherEducation has become, but I can't make these tensions explicit on the Bird Site because my presence there is an institutional one and I tread tender ground both there & here. But: this tweet & what it endorses bother me:https://twitter.com/helens_word/status/1633899576720781312- it is self-promotion- it gives a platform to someone who promotes easy fixes to academic communication.Am I just too old school?

@StephZihms thanks for responding, Stephanie - your work on #AcWri looks very interesting!I'll follow up on your book suggestion (is it this one: https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsocialsciences/2023/01/13/book-review-written-how-to-keep-writing-and-build-a-habit-that-lasts-by-bec-evans-and-chris-smith/?) but...I'm increasingly uncomfortable with all scholarship that fuels the insatiable academic writing machine. I get that everyone's career is now premised on publishing (including my own & that of my students), but there need to be push-back narratives about the value of writing so much & who is profiting and reading us.

@serenissimaj Thanks - still trying to find my feet within that area of work and research. Yes, that’s the book. I agree that the pressure to publish isn’t great and it does impact quality of research and researcher wellbeing. I try and advocate for more holistic approach to promoting people and their work. And what success looks like…
