@otso Very wise words in your bio: fediverse seems going towards a violent game of blocking instances and of blocking users... Super-imposed and self-imposed echo chambers.#mastodon #fediverse #echochamber

@darkassandra that is no problem with small instances that are meant to be echo chambers for a few usersthe problem comes with large instances where one person or a small group can dictate to thousands of others what to do on Internet

@darkassandra I got an illustration of the problem by trying to follow someone from mastodon.socialthey block this instance it is not only they, there are in total 447 instances who do thathttps://fba.ryona.agency/?domain=freeatlantis.com

@otso @darkassandra yeah mastodon is a failed concept.I can understand the block even if I wouldn't do it. Only if undesired propaganda got out of hand.If I'd have my stream full of pro Trump posts I'd block them too tbh.It's like allowing Hitler supporters to express their hate and lies. Not with me.Peace of mind is more important.But being able to make that decision for all my (non existant) members is too much power in my hands.

@darq @otso I completely agree. #mastodon is a failed concept because one hand can block whatever it wants and the users of the instance are subject to this decision. Too much power in one hand. #failed #censorship

@darkassandra @darq they have created a bad culture it is possible to create small islands of freedom as a means of resistanceFediverse should be decentralized, away with instances like mastodon.social with its 170K users

@tofeo @darkassandra I worked with PHP for over a decade. I'm not replacing ruby/mastodon with hubzilla/ php. It won't change anything regarding blocking or banning.Something in Go or Rust will come and replace Mastodon. But it will be a long struggle. There will have to be importers or conversion tools. No one wants to lose their posts.Then again if this instance crashed, I don't think I'd install another fediverse software.

@darkassandra @tofeo Just to clarify, I'm not bashing PHP or Hubzilla per se. It's a valid option if you're on shared hosting. And for most use cases it's probably great.For me PHP is a thing of the past. Yes there are all those valid points (but wordpress, but magento ,but ...) I'm saying with Go or Rust you have technology that is factor 50+ more performant and less resource heavy.https://github.com/superseriousbusiness/gotosocialfor instance.But it's still in development.

@darq @darkassandra So why not writing an implementation of #zot protocol with go or rust ?

@tofeo @darq Wow, it looks amazing. Is it built on to of the Matrix protocol? * Sorry if it's a silly question, I am a newbie, but used Matrix chat some years ago when it was developed (it was called #Riot at the time)

@darkassandra @darq no #zot is a protocol itself.
