Does anyone know how the formatting and typesetting for the U.S. Government Printing Office's official printed version of the Jan. 6th report was done? There are some fascinating artifacts -- like, in the endnotes to each chapter, URLs are in blue text and underlined. I don't mean in a PDF file that I'm viewing electronically, I mean right here in this doorstop-weight physical treeware tome that they shipped to me.

@jesse Eh, I have pity on overburdened FOIA officers :-). I wouldn't do that unless I thought there were some worthwhile public service to be performed with the information. Satisfying my curiosity, while a worthwhile service to be sure, is not a worthwhile *public* service :-).

@alpacaherder Thanks. Interestingly, the Style Manual itself has a different style -- well, actually many different styles -- from the Jan. 6th report. It doesn't seem to say much about process & tools, just about results (which is understandable, given the manual's purpose).

@kfogel I don't know the answer to your question, but you did nerd snipe me into downloading https://www.govinfo.gov/collection/gpo-style-manual?path=/gpo/U.S.%20Government%20Publishing%20Office%20Style%20Manual/2016 and browsing through it (although if it has anything about, for example, formatting URLs in citations, I didn't find it).

@kfogel Acrobat (and many other pdf tools) will get you the fonts used. This one does appear to have gone through a GPO publication workflow and is nicely digitally signed and stuff. But A lot of other identifying marks aren't there.
