       As a cis het woman, the way a trans person gets a Gender Recognition Certificate has no impact on my daily life or rights whatsoever. The rights conferred by a GRC have no impact on my daily life or rights. Trans people have never limited or threatened my daily life, rights or safety. Just one person's experience/opinion? Sure. That's the same as every gender critical argument. Anecdata is not evidence. Evidence shows Self ID does not cause problems for society and makes trans lives easier.

       @JulietEMcKenna As a cis (but not het) man, I sometimes feel a little out of my lane in commenting on this subject, but with trans people being shoved to the front lines of the right-wing culture wars, it's too important not to take the risk.Gender-specific, open-plan changing facilities with no private cubicles aren't problematic because of trans people. They always were. The problem is architectural. Dads can't take their daughters swimming without taking them into the men's changing area; mums can't take their sons without taking them into the women's. The cleaner, if they only have one cleaner, is probably a woman - because a male cleaner going into the women's would cause uproar, whereas the differential power relations mean men tend to be more relaxed about it - and so forth.As for toilets?        @BarrenPlanet indeed, and I vividly remember waiting outside a very dubious Gents for my under-ten son because he didn't want to come into the Ladies with me any more. (My primary concern was getting questions about the graffiti he might see, to be clear.) As for people condemning gender neutral toilets, I can often derail them by saying 'like the one in your own home, you mean?'

       @Caddi @JulietEMcKenna As a bloke, I've had the experience of being stood there, butt naked, to suddenly be confronted by a female cleaner. It's very different for most men - we don't generally percieve women as a potential *threat* - but it was still embarrassing!However, I didn't question the right of the cleaner to exist. We've all gotta make a living, right? I questioned the adequacy of the facilities, and lack of privacy they afforded by having no cubicles. What about people with serious scarring, or skin conditions that they'd prefer others not to gawp at?Why do TERFs never consider that trans women might feel just as uncomfortable as they do? Or for that matter, other *cis* women who, for whatever reason, don't match the gender norms, and feel self-conscious about their appearance? Why can they not see that transphobia can hurt cis women too? Do the only women that matter look like slim, elegant, rich, white, 50-something writers of fantasy fiction? Do they not see how this is an essentially patriarchal view of 'femininity'?The newer public leisure facilities, up and down the UK and elsewhere, uncontroversially solved all these issues decades ago, and no-one complained. 🙄

I - a queer man - already know it's in line with what trans and LGBTQ+ people mostly think, because it's based on years of conversations with friends, colleagues and associates, but cis women's voices would be welcome.If I've got anything wrong, don't let me off the hook!
