@calculsobericOh, I suggest to ask for Window Manager then. There are plenty of choices. They tend to take fewer effort to create because they focus on, well, managing windows. The applications that are bundled in a desktop environment strive to create something coherent. With WMs, it's more mix and match.

@calculsoberic tiling window managers aren't that hard to get used to. It depends on what programming language you're familiar with. Aside that, all of them work the same. Also getting used to the workflow of a window manager (or any different DE) always takes a bit of time, but you get to work around to improve your workflow.

@calculsobericIt's more like „don't take away from us what we grew accustomed to!“But then, Linux desktops aren't strictly known for their UX.GNOME values simplicity since that move. KDE is more about customisability.A good middle way could be Elementary (haven't tried that myself but hear many praises about it).@maltheft

@calculsoberic KDE implemented Plasma around 2012[-ish?. I don't remember exactly] at KDE version 4. I'd been playing with whatever version comes with Debian 11, and it was still over-complicated. 3.x had a lot of fine grained configuration control, and it was much easier to navigate for me.

@calculsoberic yeah I don't recommend it for general computer usage. But for working / programming it's SUCH a good workflow. Says out of the way, and is FAST.At home I use KDE, but I've "mocked" it into a pseudo i3 setup by still using dmenu for launching programs. removing any application launcher in the bottom menubar. And added equivalent keybinds for workspaces and window tiling. But it's manual.https://senders.io/blog/2020-12-17/

Functionality works, very confiruable, out of the world eye candy and nearly everything that supposedly doesn't work on wlr based compositors works on Hypr (to be fair, there are some rather hacky approaches involved in doing that, for example the keybind passthrough)
