FOMOing into the Mostr Fediverse bridge. When people across this divide realize who the common enemy is, it's game over for politicians.

I haven't seen that, but I've seen plenty of Nostr bashing on Fedi and Fedi bashing on Nostr. This is pointless, the only real debate is about the technology, and each has its pros and cons. Cryptographic identities in Nostr is a game changer and will eventually win the day.

@c060b31fe2bbb0be4d393bc7c40a80848a25b8f0e0f382cb5b49c37bf7476cb4@mostr.pub I don't really understand the importance of cryptographic identities. I'd actually argue that cryptographic identities, like what BlueSky argues for, only serves as a means of tying real identity to user account in an immutable way that reduces the opportunity for anonymity and primarily benefits those interested in tracking and data harvesting (think, targeted advertisements, e.g.). We've gone decades without cryptographic identities, nor any glaring, missing vacancy asking for cryptographic identities. I know it's a bit sensational to claim that Web3 doesn't have to involve "muh blockchains" and "muh cryptography", but it really doesn't (and probably shouldn't).

The alternative is centralized identities

@adiz @c060b31fe2bbb0be4d393bc7c40a80848a25b8f0e0f382cb5b49c37bf7476cb4 You have no idea what you're talking about. Nostr doesn't involve any blockchain (except for optional LN addresses, but I don't care about that and you don't have to either)Cryptographic identities aren't much more unique that fedi IDs and much more sovereign (not that a CCP fanboy would care about that).Fediverse uses cryptography too BTW. Just in a more custodial way (servers store users' secret keys). And in both cases, users can create as many identities as they want and tie them or not to their IRL identity as they wish. That being said, there are protocols that don't have persistent identifiers at all. Such as SimpleX. It's main application at the moment is messaging but the IIRC the underlying protocol is quite basic and could be used to build social networking on top of.

@adiz @c060b31fe2bbb0be4d393bc7c40a80848a25b8f0e0f382cb5b49c37bf7476cb4 Cryptographic identities do not depend on DNS name. In fediverse this property can be used to migrate your account from one server to another, even if the server you're migrating from is no longer accessible. The lack of proper migration mechanism is a big problem: instances disappear all the time, and sometimes without notice. Around 20% of my followers are accounts on dead instances.I agree that key based identity has certain disadvantages, so it's better to keep it optional.@Hyolobrika
