It is difficult to describe just how incredibly, stupidly, frustrating it is that Gigi Sohn had to withdraw from her nomination to the FCC (because a few heavily lobbied Democratic Senators blocked her).At the end of the Trump years, the Senate rushed through Nathan Simington in a few weeks to be an FCC commissioner despite a near total lack of experience or skills for the job. Meanwhile Biden took 9 months to even nominate Sohn and then never provided the support she needed.

@mmasnick I had a phrase years ago that still applies.Repubs play hardball. Dems play along.

I've known GIgi for many years, and can think of no single person who would make a better FCC commissioner. Beyond having the necessary knowledge and experience, she is also thoughtful, incredibly considerate, and able to really understand the many challenges that the FCC has to deal with. It's a real loss for the US, and the internet. Anyone who's ever dealt with GIgi (even opposing her) knows that she's beyond qualified for the FCC.What a stupid end result.

@mmasnickIncompetence or a result of the Democrats being corrupted by big money donors? I'm kinda confused these days. Biden promised to be FDR, I expected same old shit, but he's been a bit better than that. IDK.

@inklings he nominated (and re-nominated) but... waited 9 months to do so, and then never gave her the support needed to get her through. The Dems control the Senate. This should have been a week one nomination, and approved within a month.

@mmasnick He nominated her. He renominated her. Pls explain how that is evident ‘he don’t support her’ Do you have any idea what steps they took behind the scenes?Yes Dems - chiefly manchin - said be would vote no. That’s on manchin. He’s done it before ya know. The idea that Biden has control of Manchin’s votes is insupportable.

@inklings it took him NINE months to nominate her in the first place. And then after nominating her, basically seemed to leave her to hang. There was little, if any, effort to whip up support for her.

@mmasnick Dear sir: I don’t know why it took 9 months to nominate someone. DO YOU? If so, do tell. And how could he be guilty of not supporting her BEFORE SHE WAS NOMINATED? On what do you base your claim ‘there was no effort’ to whip support … do you know all private communications that occurred? Bc that’s how most whipping is conducted. Not via press release.

@mmasnick A failed outcome does not mean there was no sincere effort.

@mmasnick This is not the first time manchin & others have screwed over Biden on an appointment. It’s disgusting. Let’s just agree to agree on that.

@inklings @mmasnick Saying the Democrats controlled the Senate in the 117th Congress is only said by people with no knowledge of America's political landscape and it seems like those people enjoy trying to assign the blame for Republican actions upon Democrats in order to maintain their neutrality and "blamelessness" for our government.
