@theorytoe @Nishi Latex is /comfy/ for basic formatting like italics, etc. I haven't used it with images though. I like how it only has like 3 characters you have to escape (not including the quotation marks which you want in most cases anyway) unlike (((markdown))) where you have to escape like every ASCII character that is not a letter or digit and I don't even know what the escape character is (probably the usual \). (HT|X)ML are obnoxious but at least the characters to escape are obvious and I have an easy way to insert any character (as long as I know its code or (HT|X)ML name).Though it's annoying to have to type &[lr]dquo; all the time.

@mikuphile @Nishi yeahif it wasnt that writing xml is even more autistic than latexi would totally go with the non-md versiononce I get better at writing parsers ill probably make a simple markup lang with a minmal latex subset of syntaxbecause its actually very readable

@theorytoe @NishiXML has use as a markup language (even if others actually do it right), but I don't understand why some niggers try to use it for serialization. Kikerosoft especially loves using XML for configuration files, and every time you see such things you know that they should just use json:<array size="4" elementType="string"><value size="3" type="string">XML</value><value size="2" type="string">is</value><value size="3" type="string">for</value><value size="6" type="string">niggers</value></array>

@mikuphile @Nishi >xmpp>rfc specifies opening xml stream:marseygunshotsuicide: can we stop using this and make a less terrible arbitrary markup language please?

@mikuphile @theorytoe @Nishi It's a more understandable format. Also easier on the eyes.

@mikuphile @theorytoe @Nishi MY experience was that, XML was popular first, then josn became wide spread, as a result, XML is widely supported and widely used, and many people never had a reason to switch. (certainly companies wont want to switch if it costs money and produces the same result)

@Daikonradish @mikuphile @Nishi >easier on the eyes>I already have bad eye problemsyeah if you keep tags to a minimum sure its readable.but like tag attributes are even more overused than html

@dynamin @mikuphile @Nishi yeahlegacy but I gripe more about the terrible usages of it anyway (theres that for json, but its less prevalent)

@theorytoe @mikuphile @Nishi knowing when to pickle dump and when to json dump, prevents you from making beautiful soup out of your serialization.

@mikuphile @Nishi its really depends on what you want for a parser.Generally with simple parsers youll really only need regex, the more complex one youll need it look into stuff like parser-combinators ast parsing and whatnotIm not an expert either so I cant really give you specific pointers
