       Whenever someone tells me that a social network will survive because it's big in the Global South, I get skeptical.It's not that I don't think the Global South is unimportant.It's that Silicon Valley doesn't think it's important. Case in point: Friendster. It was *huge* in the Philippines. But it died.Another example: Orkut. Big in Brazil and India. It likewise died.Hi5 was the most popular social network in Latin America.
