@stux literally none of my friends use #Mastodon. And when I've tried to follow accounts on here that I used to follow on Twitter, I think I found maybe four accounts? So I’m pretty much interacting with a completely new set of people/accounts. And that can only broaden one's horizons, which is absolutely a good thing.

@stux Great point and I’ve heard the same opinion from people. Whenever I recommend people join I say the same thing - you’ll meet new people which is a good thing. I get the feeling some people prefer a place where it’s more intentional like LinkedIn because they’re looking for a job.

@stux I fully agree. A number of people I followed on the birdsite are here on Mastodon now but I have met many new people too. The quality of discussion here is so much better than Twitter.

@stux Sounds like people are just too comfortable with their friends and not new experiences or learning from new people. Shame. For me I'm here for the new people I befriended and for the new collection of people I follow and the hashtags I use that others are using as well.

@calculsoberic A decentralised alternate? I do like Matrix, I’ve been using it for a while and I’ve just set up my own homeserver. The new stuff the element and matrix teams are working on (in the form of ElementX/sliding-sync and P2P Element as well as some other projects) is pretty interesting as well
