@thegreatape Addicts only quit if they want to. Doesn't matter how great the detox program is, how attentive the doctors are, or how supportive a family is. I doubt he'll ever go clean if he worked himself up to 10mg daily that quickly. Like a kid in a candy store.

@Jim @thegreatape That's been my experience. Even for stuff like tobacco it's really hard. The withdraws are going to be really tough with what he is on. Lucky for him he can just start up a stream and ebeg once a hour and go back to sleep.

Benzos are really rough. I am not a physician, but as I understand it they are supposed to be something short term or for specific acute instances.You aren’t supposed to ride the train to xannyland every day.

Xanax and benzos should be used as-needed - if you are feeling particularly anxious one day, or having issues sleeping at night. Not to use every day, multiple times a day - imo - unless your doctor recommends this for whatever reason, It isn't a good long-term solution to things like anxiety, it only masks and will make things worse on the other end when you abuse them, run out, or need to be weened off them. I wonder what he was going through or what's up with him to get a benzo prescription in the first place. But of course in America it is probably very easy. Anywhere, really. You always hear of older people always having these prescriptions on hand that last them an entire year, they give them out easily and people don't know how harmful and dangerous they can be. Wouldn't be surprised if he just wanted to abuse it in the first place.

The withdrawals are bad enough to make your entire life revolve around getting the next dose. The retarded thing here was taking opioids for a prolonged period of time in the first place.
