Seeking #developer #advice ❤️ 🤔 We want to create a webby GUI app for accessing federated forge network, a bit like Element is to Matrix 🖥️ Been considering to write from scratch using Tauri, Tailwind, didn't pick a language :git: Now considering to fork #GitHub Desktop instead! Replace GitHub API with ForgeFed and tweak the UI etc. :github: https://github.com/desktop/desktopIt's an existing codebase with over 33k commitsIs it a good idea to fork? Thoughts/concerns/advice? And boost 🙏--fr33

@forgefedSuch an Electron-based program would be unrunnable on my low memory dev machine I use. Web technology is extremely resource intensive. I can't for example run more than 5 Firefox tabs, or Firefox + Telegram, at the same time without my machine crashing.I'd say, invest a little time learning a GUI framework, like GTK. I'd be able to use it! Or at the very least write a simple, brutalist CSS, traditional CRUD application.

@forgefed I tend to avoid webview based apps, GitHub Desktop included. To work with something native like Qt or GTK would rock! But if you stick to forking GH Desktop, I suggest copylefting it 😁.
