       "If you don't have anything to hide..."I've heard that my entire life regarding my hyperfocus on personal privacy. "I don't have anything to hide, I have nothing you need to know" is my canned response.  But now fast forward to today: groups being targeted for genocide, systemic racism (from and to all sides), governments calling for the execution and enslavement of women,  unchecked government just flatly ignoring the Constitution and doing whatever the fuck they want (what are you going to do about it? They own you. ), laws and pretext designed to criminalize everyone,  to keep us "in line", corporations running government, above and beyond the reach of laws they write,  our lives and information owned by big-co, ...Come tell me again how my hyperfocus on personal privacy is such a bad thing. "Do you have something to hide?""No idea.  Maybe. Probably?  If not, wait ten minutes and I'm sure I will. "

       Thinking about it, this reminds me a lot of the Commie-Hunts from my youth in the 50's and 60's, where even being accused of "being a communist" could land one in prison, or at least destroy their lives. Now we have states trying to criminalize women traveling across state lines (hello, US Constitution?!), BigCorp deciding to refuse to allow someone to purchase life-saving medication for any amount of money, and then selling/giving the information to government if you try to acquire it. But the real "commie" thing today is trans*. We even see other marginalized communities turning on trans* in the hope of currying favor - "maybe the government will ignore me today if I just turn over the trans* living next door?" - like they're not coming for [you] next, just like Nazi-controlled Germany did in the beginning. Want to participate in sports? Gonna have to pull your pants down. Wanna use the restroom? Gonna need a DNA sample. "Your papers please..."Look, I'm a Boomer, I embrace that. But this is one of those "not learning from history and doomed to repeat it" moments folks. What can you, we, us do about it? Honestly - probably nothing. The guy with the guns makes the laws. Just give some thought to your own privacy - whatever "group" you're a part of? ...you're next.
