One of my vaccinated relatives had a mild case of COVID a while ago ("like a cold"), but went on to develop breathing problems. He's doing his taxes and itemizing medical expenses. He had 75 doctors appointments last year. Of course, they weren't all for his breathing problems, but probably 3/4 were. (And he's not better.)Aside from just not wanting to be sick, who has the time or money for that many doctors appointments? What a nightmare this world is.#CovidIsNotOver

@grammargirl CoVid is testing people's resolve. What I found that helped me was deep coughing exercises that help to loosen and expel phlegm. You have to dislodge it before it gets a chance to build up so much. Also a big dose of vitamin C right when you're starting to feel sick. Honey, lemon, ginger tea is also great. Add some lemongrass if you're feeling adventurous. Your mileage will vary.

@grammargirl Exactly. I'm a teacher, still masking because 1) I don't want to get sick (the threat of long covid is terrifying to me) and 2) I hate writing sub plans (they take hours & hours of work), & 3) we have no subs anyway, so that's a week of instruction my students would basically lose out on.

@grammargirl I suspect that 75 doctor appointments in the US would total, maybe 2.5 hours of actual "face time" with a doctor.I miss the local family GP. These medical "factories" here are pretty bad. It's assembly line medicine.

@grammargirl And some areas are now charging up to $150 to be tested for covid and people can't afford that. Covid isn't over, our government just left us to deal with it on our own

@grammargirl I think this just shows us that we don't fully understand what is going on with Covid. I have a friend who was vaxed and boosted, yet he got it three times (tested positive three times). Only once did he feel sick at all. He does not have any long term symptoms. But there is still a lot for us to learn and the doctors don't really know either.

@grammargirl sorry to hear that.I question what doctors could do over 75 visits that couldn't be accomplished in a third of them.I think to my own ailments:Me: "Yeah that problem is still bothering me."Dr: "ok. Let's continue on the medication/ try this one instead and follow up in two weeks.Me: ...Dr: $$$Me: 😢Rinse and repeat.

@grammargirl I have doctor's appointments every single week. Just love mental illness and chronic pain... And my insurance changed so now I have to see my psychiatrist a lot less or pay like $300 every time and go bankrupt. But people keep telling me that the USA is the best country... They've obviously never seen surprise medical bills or had their prior authorization denied. Literally just fixing healthcare would dramatically improve our lives.

@grammargirl I keep getting more doctors because they keep lowering the numbers for every bodily function there is. A1C over 2? You got diabeetus! Blood pressure over 120/60? You need blood pressure medication! I’m now taking meds and seeing doctors for organs I never knew existed.

@grammargirl As I work in a hospital, I've been offered every injection & accepted them all. This doesn't make me invulnerable, just less susceptible.I would say that before my first vaccination for it, I had covid twice - that I know of.Afterwards, none and I have been tested a LOT...It boils down to percentages but I would be even safer if I changed where I work!

@grammargirl say you’re in America without saying you’re in America. The healthcare system in the US is truly nightmarish.

@grammargirl That's what is called Long COVID and it's a huge issue. Mechanisms are slowly being worked out, but no treatment is available currently. An estimated 10% of people who get COVID go on to get Long COVID. Nasty stuff

@grammargirl It’s sometimes the case that the least severe initial symptoms lead to the worst long-term symptoms. For anyone who cares it’s important to get antivirals early if you can.
